MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Elizabeth Gratz and sophomore Will Anti qualified for the junior finals on day one of the 2016 USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championships, on Dec. 2, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Gratz shot 412.8 in the open relay and 249.0 in the final to finish second overall in the junior women’s 10m air rifle competition. The Sigel, Illinois, native was narrowly edged by Minden Miles for the first-day victory, as Miles shot 250.4 in the final. Gratz finished 13th in the women’s open competition.
On the men’s side, Anti shot 615.6 in the open relay and 119.2 in the final to place eighth in the junior men’s 10m air rifle. He finished 16th overall in the open competition.
On the women’s side, freshman Milica Babic shot 412.2 to place 16th in the open relay and 11th in the junior competition. She was followed by classmate Morgan Phillips, who shot 408.1 and placed 35th in the open division and 27th in the junior competition.
On the men’s side, senior Jean-Pierre Lucas finished behind Anti in the open relay with a 612.3 mark, good enough for 23rd place. Freshman Jack Anderson shot 603.2 and finished 43rd in the open competition, 24th in the junior division. Classmate Noah Barker followed, finishing 64th in the open division and 41st in the junior competition with a 595.8 mark.
Of note, graduate assistant Michael Bamsey shot 615.6 and finished 15th in the open competition.
Competition will resume on Saturday, Dec. 3, and continue through Sunday.
