WVU Wraps Up at William & Mary

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s tennis team wrapped up the William & Mary Tribe Invitational with two singles victories, in Williamsburg, Virginia, earlier today.
The three-day event took place at different sites throughout the Williamsburg area, including the Millie West Tennis Facility, the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center and the Common Tennis Courts.
Eight Mountaineers saw action today, as WVU closed out the tournament with a singles match against the Maryland Terrapins, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
Sophomore Habiba Shaker went three-for-three on the weekend in singles play, as she bested Kristina Hovsepyan in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Carolina Lewis tallied her second win of the weekend, as she came out on top in a three-set tiebreaker. Lewis fell short in the first set, but only gave up two games in sets two and three to claim the victory with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.
“Overall, we did make progress this weekend,” said third-year coach Miha Lisac. “There are things we need to get better at, and we are looking forward to getting back to work this week.”
The Mountaineers host Toledo, Buffalo, Wright State and Maryland in the WVU Pink Invitational from Sept. 25-27, at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts. West Virginia will sport pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.
