In addition to the team’s accolade, rising senior Hailey Barrett was tabbed as an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the 2015 season. Majoring in sport management, Barrett earned Big 12 First Team All-Academic honors for the 2015 season and was also named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2014.
“In regards to the team, it’s been great to see that they can work hard and challenge themselves on the court and in the classroom,” coach Miha Lisac. “Jen (Mandeville) has done a great job working with the team’s tough practice and travel schedule, and she is one of many people that has contributed to the team’s success this season.”
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA or Junior/Community College eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year and be enrolled at West Virginia University for at least two semesters.
“Hailey has been a leader on the team this year, and I am happy to see that she is recognized for her efforts,” Lisac explained. “It is our mission to seek success in the classroom, as well as on the tennis courts, and it’s great to see that the players are performing well. We are looking to continue our academic success as well as build the program on the tennis courts this upcoming season.”
