MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU baseball team will travel to Virginia Tech on Tuesday, May 5, for a 5:30 p.m., non-conference game at English Field.

 

The Mountaineers are looking to get back on track after losing eight of their last 10, including a weekend sweep by No. 4 TCU. West Virginia holds a 24-22 overall record.

 

Freshman second baseman Kyle Davis paces the WVU offense, batting .351 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 28 RBIs, while senior shortstop Taylor Munden has a team-leading 11 home runs to go along with 10 doubles and 28 RBIs. Sophomore first baseman Jackson Cramer and sophomore right fielder Shaun Wood have eight home runs apiece, with Wood holding the team lead in RBIs with 32.

 

As a team, WVU is batting .268 with 142 extra-base hits and 229 runs driven in. The pitching staff has a 3.79 ERA in 412.2 innings with 336 strikeouts.

 

Junior right-hander Jeff Hardy (2-0, 5.76 ERA) will get his first career start for West Virginia. Hardy has made 15 appearances in relief, striking out 21 in 25 innings.

 

Virginia Tech has a 25-24 record and has won six in a row, including a weekend sweep at home against Boston College.

 

Senior infielder Alex Perez leads the Hokie offensively with a .333 batting average, nine doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 33 RBIs. Senior infielder Brendon Hayden is hitting .330 and holds the team lead in doubles (17), home runs (11) and RBIs (50), while senior infielder Erik Payne has 11 doubles, six home runs and 47 RBIs with a .328 batting average.

 

The Hokies are hitting .264 as a team with 83 doubles, 12 triples, 31 home runs and 249 RBIs. The pitching staff holds a 5.16 ERA with 353 strikeouts in 435.2 innings.

 

Junior left-hander Jon Woodcock will make his 11^th start of the season, holding a 4.17 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 58.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .199 off of Woodcock.

 

This will be the 86^th meeting between the schools with the Hokies holding a 52-32-1 advantage.
