Gillespie Wins Big 12 Title in 10K

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Behind a Big 12 title from senior Kaitlyn Gillespie, the West Virginia University track and field team completed the first of three days of competition at the 2015 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames, Iowa, earlier tonight.
Gillespie raced to a Big 12 Championship in the 10,000 meters, crossing the line in a career-best time of 33:45.56. The time is the second-fastest mark in program history.
The Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, native shattered her previous-best time in the event of 34:10.60 set during the 2011 outdoor season.
Freshmen Brynn Harshbarger and Maggie Drazba placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in the event. Harshbarger completed the 10k in 35:30.86, while Drazba finished in 35:50.40.
In the pole vault, senior Katlyn Shelar placed 12th in the league with a mark of 3.78 meters.
The Mountaineers only had competitors in the pole vault and 10,000-meter run on Friday.
Saturday’s action will begin at 11 a.m., ET. A live stream link to the action on Saturday can be found at WVUsports.com, while Sunday’s competition will be televised on tape delay by FOX Regional Sports Networks which will be announced at a later date.
