Track Finishes Day One at Jesse Owens Classic

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Behind seven personal-best times, the West Virginia University track and field team completed the first day of the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic in Columbus, Ohio, earlier tonight.
The Mountaineers had competitors in three different events on Friday evening.
Renee Maisonneuve crossed the line in second overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Maisonneuve’s time of 10:51.10 was more than eight seconds faster than her previous personal-best mark in the event.
Six student-athletes competed in the 1,500-meter run with five recording career-best times in the event.
Kelly Williams led the way with a seventh-place finish in 4:24.61. Amy Cashin followed directly behind in eighth place overall in a career-best 4:24.84. Brianna Kerekes placed 14th in 4:28.77, Brynn Harshbarger finished 29th in 4:38.04, Maggie Drazba placed 30th in 4:38.51 and Lydia Martinelli crossed the line in 43rd in 4:59.45.
Kerekes, Harshbarger, Drazba and Martinelli joined Cashin with personal-best times in the event.
In the 5,000-meter run, Allie Diehl placed 15th in 18:31.40. Diehl’s time was less than one second off her career outdoor-best mark.
The second and final day of the Jesse Owens Classic will kick off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. and conclude around 5 p.m.
