Haley, a native of Pasadena, Maryland, finished tied for sixth place in the all-around, only her fourth career all-around appearance. She also scored career highs of 9.85 on beam and 9.825 on vault. Additionally, Haley finished tied for eighth on floor with a 9.85 mark and tallied 9.7 on bars.
The Mountaineers concluded their 2015 season with a fifth place, 195.65 showing at the championships in front of a supportive home crowd. The team’s mark was its second-best score ever at an NCAA regional.

This Week in Track and Field: The Mountaineers return to the track this Saturday, April 11, at the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
Last Week in Track and Field: West Virginia was split last weekend, competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California, and the Ohio Cherry Blossom Invitational in Athens, Ohio.
Notes & Quotes: On Friday night, four Mountaineer competitors posted personal-best times at the Stanford Invitational … senior Katie Gillespie highlighted the action in her first appearance on the track since the 2012-13 season … Gillespie posted a fourth-place result in section two of the women’s 5k in a career-best time of 16:00.27 … On Saturday at Ohio, three WVU competitors registered first-place results in their respective events … Millie Paladino, a Morgantown, West Virginia, native, competed in the 800-meter run for the first time, taking first overall in 2:13.83 … freshman Shamoya McNeil took first in the triple jump with a leap of 11.93 meters … McNeil also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing fourth in 13.25 … in the high jump, Marsielle McBeam claimed first place with a mark of 1.67 meters.
Coach Sean Cleary: “I feel a number of the girls took a step forward and better positioned themselves for later in the season. It’s very important that we come back home and continue focusing to the best of our abilities in training and in the classroom so that we are prepared for everything that is coming over the next 6-8 weeks.”
This Week in Women’s Basketball: The Mountaineers have concluded their 2015 season.
Last Week in Women’s Basketball: West Virginia (23-15) went 1-1 last week … the Mountaineers knocked off Temple, 66-58, in overtime last Wednesday to advance to the WNIT Championship for the first time since 2005 … WVU played in back-to-back overtime games for the first time since January 1 and 3, 2006 … West Virginia fell, 62-60, to UCLA in the WNIT Championship game, which was held at the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday afternoon … the attendance of 8,403 fans was the second largest to see a women’s basketball only-event at the Civic Center.
Notes and Quotes: West Virginia is WNIT Runner-Up for the second time in program history … Averee Fields and Bria Holmes were named to the WNIT All-Tournament team … Fields boasted a team-leading 17.7 points and 8.2 rebounds during the six-game tournament … Holmes had an average of 16.8 points and 5.3 rebounds during the tournament … WVU finished the year 19-4 at home, tying Baylor and Notre Dame for most home victories in the country … Holmes finished the year with 716 points, which is second most in a single season for a WVU player, only behind 728 points set by Rosemary Kosiorek in 1992 … Holmes was tabbed WBCA All-America Honorable Mention on Saturday … Lanay Montgomery’s 124 blocks are the fourth most in a single-season at WVU … the Mountaineers’ 38 games played are the most in school history … WVU set a single-season program record with 583 offensive rebounds.
Coach Mike Carey: “Our seniors have just been fantastic. Even though we didn’t win this game, we would not be at this game without our three seniors. They have just been fantastic on and off the floor. They’ve won a lot of basketball games. I’m so proud of them. They don’t need to hold their heads down. They’ve done a lot for this University and for this basketball program. They need to keep their heads up. They played hard down to the last second. I have nothing but praise for our three seniors.”
This Week in Tennis: The Mountaineers (9-8, 0-5 Big 12) return to the courts this week as the team travels to Texas for a pair of Big 12 matches against No.18 Texas Tech on Friday, April 10 at 3 p.m., and No. 17 TCU on Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
Last Week in Tennis: WVU was idle last week.
Notes and Quotes: Freshman Habiba Shaker has a team-best 12-2 mark in doubles play as she has teamed up with junior Hailey Barrett, as well as classmates Lyn Yuen Choo, Yvon Martinez and Carolina Lewis throughout the spring … Shaker holds an 8-3 mark at the No. 4 position and a 3-1 mark at the No. 5 position in singles play … sophomore Kaja Mrgole has tallied nine wins at the No. 1 slot, and freshman Carolina Lewis has a perfect 11-0 mark in dual-match play, with victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.
This Week in Gymnastics: The Mountaineers have concluded their 2015 season.
Last Week in Gymnastics: WVU (14-9-1, 1-1-1) scored 195.65 and finished fifth at the 2015 NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships on April 4 at the WVU Coliseum … seeded sixth in the region, the Mountaineers’ score was their second-best mark at an NCAA regional, ranking just behind the team’s program-best 195.9 score at the 2012 NCAA Auburn Regional … WVU scored a season-high 49.225 on beam … the squad also tallied 49.125 on vault, 48.925 on floor and 48.375 on bars … senior Dayah Haley scored a career-high 39.225 and tied for sixth in the all-around, just missing an individual qualification to the NCAA National Championships … Haley also tied for eighth on floor with a 9.85 … freshman Zaakira Muhammad paced on vault (9.85) and bars (9.725) … four Mountaineers scored 9.85 on beam and tied for 11th place: Haley, classmate Beth Deal, sophomore Alexa Goldberg and freshman Jordan Gillette … the mark was a career high for Haley, Goldberg and Gillette.
Notes and Quotes: Saturday was the final career meet for Haley, Deal, classmate Lia Salzano and fifth-year transfer Brittney Harris … No. 2-ranked Florida (197.475) finished first, and No. 11 Stanford (197.0) placed second … both teams earned the national championships bids … WVU’s final score was its third highest of the 2015 season … WVU’s previous beam season-high score was 49.0 … WVU’s vault mark was its second-best of the year … Haley and freshman Robyn Bernard hit for a career-high 9.825 on vault.
This Week in Rowing: The Mountaineers return to the water this week, as the team travels to West Windsor Township, New Jersey, for the Knecht Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 ... the Knecht Cup Regatta provides competition for nearly 70 schools across the country each year.
Last Week in Rowing: WVU traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, for a scrimmage on Lake Lemon against the Hooisers, as both teams competed in a number of different pieces on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4 ... the lineups for the first, second and third varsity boats were changed throughout each race.
Coach Jimmy King: “The emphasis of today’s race was strictly to compete. This weekend’s competition was very valuable for our team, as we continue to assess and prepare for our key races later in the season,” said coach Jimmy King, following Indiana’s scrimmage.
This Week in Baseball: The WVU baseball team will play at Maryland on Tuesday, April 7, at 4 p.m. … the Mountaineers will then open Monongalia County Ballpark with a non-conference series against Butler from April 10-12 … Friday’s game will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday’s game will start at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s finale begins at 1 p.m.
Last Week In Baseball: The Mountaineers went 3-1 last weekend, winning a midweek game at Pitt (4-1) and winning a Big 12 road series at Kansas State … West Virginia lost on Thursday, 8-2, won on Friday, 5-3, and picked up a win in the rubber match with a 3-2 win on Saturday.
Notes & Quotes: Senior left fielder Brad Johnson had an impressive week to continue his 10-game hitting streak, batting .429 (6-for-14) with three runs, one triple and one RBI … freshman second baseman Kyle Davis batted .412 (7-for-17) with two runs, two doubles and three RBIs, while sophomore catcher Ray Guerrini had one double, one home run and six RBIs … the pitching staff posted a 3.09 ERA and opponents hit just .190 last week … on Friday, junior left-hander Ross Vance threw a complete game three-hitter, allowing three runs, two earned, with two strikeouts and six walks … after struggling to find the strike zone early on Saturday, sophomore right-hander Chad Donato settled down and retired 18 of the final 20 batters he faced to take a no-decision … Donato allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 7.1 innings … junior right-hander Blake Smith made two appearances last week and picked up one win and one save … Smith pitched 2.2 innings of no-run relief, giving up one hit with five strikeouts and no walks.
