MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team opens its 2015 spring home season slate against Pitt on Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Friday is a “Pink Match,” and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Additionally, a donations box will be available in the stadium concourse, and all monetary donations will be donated to Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Foundation at a later date.
The Mountaineers will conduct an Easter egg hunt at halftime Friday night, and fans are encouraged to bring an Easter basket and join in on the fun.
Friday’s match is WVU’s first of three spring contests in Morgantown. The squad opened its 2015 spring season with a 4-0 loss to the Western New York Flash on March 14, in Elma, New York.
“The team has been working really hard in practice to continue its development, with the goal of obtaining our next level of play,” said coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We’re looking forward to meeting an ACC team and applying the skills we’ve been working on in a game setting.
“Friday night also should be a great time for our fans and their families to enjoy time outside during the holiday weekend. We encourage everyone to come out to Dick Dlesk Stadium in their best pink gear.”
Redshirt-freshman forward Amandine Pierre-Louis pushed WVU’s offensive drive against the Flash, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), as she registered three shots, including one on goal. Goalkeepers Michelle Newhouse and Hannah Steadman combined for 17 saves, and the Mountaineer defense drew the Flash offside nine times.
The Panthers have already met Ohio University, Dayton, Wake Forest and South Carolina this spring; Pitt does not release spring match results. Nine starters and 12 letterwinners return for the Panthers.
