Huth Named Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Junior center fielder KC Huth of the WVU baseball team has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week for his performance in four games last week.
Huth had nine hits in 15 at bats for a .600 batting average with four runs, two doubles, one home run, six RBIs, four walks and one stolen base. Huth finished with a .933 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base percentage.
During the weekend series against Butler, Huth went 9-for-13 (.692) with four hits on Friday, two hits on Saturday and three hits on Sunday. Among his three hits on Sunday were two doubles and a three-run home run. All six of his weekend RBIs came with two outs.

This Week in Track and Field: The Mountaineers will have a short week, returning to the track on Friday, April 17, for the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia ... the two-day competition will continue on Saturday, April 18.
Last Week in Track and Field: West Virginia competed at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia ... the one-day meet, held on Saturday, was hosted by George Mason University.
Notes & Quotes: Freshman Shamoya McNeil highlighted the action on Saturday, placing second overall in the triple jump ... McNeil’s jump of 12.39 meters was a career-best mark and the 32nd-best mark in the East Region this outdoor season ... Marsielle McBeam took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters, while Hannah Stone followed in sixth place in the event with a jump of 1.60 meters ... freshman Sara Finfrock led the Mountaineers in the pole vault. finishing in a tie for fifth place with a vault of 3.35 meters.
This Week in Tennis: WVU returns home to host its final Big 12 conference matches of the season, as it welcomes No. 29 Oklahoma on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. … the Mountaineers will then face No. 9 Oklahoma State on Sunday, April 19 … the match against the Cowgirls is set to begin at 10 a.m., and will recognize lone-senior Ikttesh Chahal in her final match of the regular season.
Last Week in Tennis: WVU (9-10, 0-7) fell to No. 15 Texas Tech, 4-0, on Friday, April 10, in Lubbock, Texas … the Mountaineers remained in Texas, and the team squared off against No. 19 TCU on Sunday, April 12, but dropped a 4-1 decision to the Horned Frogs to close out the weekend … The Mountaineers picked up their lone point of the match by forfeit at the No. 6 position.
Notes and Quotes: Freshman Habiba Shaker has a team-best 12-4 mark in doubles play as she has teamed up with junior Hailey Barrett as well as classmates Lyn Yuen Choo, Yvon Martinez and Carolina Lewis throughout the spring … Shaker holds a 8-3 mark at the No. 4 position and a 3-1 mark at the No. 5 position in singles play … sophomore Kaja Mrgole has tallied nine wins at the No. 1 slot, and freshman Carolina Lewis has a team-best 11-2 mark in dual-match play, with victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.
This Week in Rowing: The Mountaineers return to the water on Sunday, April 19, with a scrimmage against Duquesne on the Monongahela River.
Last Week in Rowing: WVU traveled to West Windsor Township, New Jersey, on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12 to compete in the Knecht Cup Regatta on Mercer Lake … the Women’s First Varsity Eight was second in its heat on Saturday with a time of 6:47.73 to advance to the semifinals … the Mountaineers placed fifth in the semifinals to earn a spot in the Third Final (6:58.44) … in the Third Final, the Women’s First Varsity Eight finished fifth for the second time, as the boat crossed the line in 7:04.94, on Sunday afternoon ... the highlight of the weekend came from the Women’s Second Varsity Eight boat, which won the Petite Final to place seventh overall out of 18 crews throughout the course of the two-day event … entering the last 500 meters, West Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight held off Alabama’s boat by less than .77 seconds.
Coach Jimmy King: “We had a productive weekend of racing highlighted by the performance of the Women’s Second Varsity Eight. Our overall team performance obviously needs to be better, and we’ll certainly address the shortcomings that were revealed this weekend,” said coach Jimmy King, following the Knecht Cup Regatta.
This Week in Baseball: The WVU baseball team will host Penn State on Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. … the Mountaineers will then host a Big 12 series at Monongalia County Ballpark against Oklahoma from April 17-19 … Friday’s game will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday’s game will start at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s finale begins at 11 a.m.
Last Week In Baseball: The Mountaineers went 3-1 last weekend, losing a midweek game at Maryland (12-7), and sweeping a weekend series against Butler in the grand opening of Monongalia County Ballpark … West Virginia won 6-5 in 13 innings on Friday, 8-0 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday.
Notes & Quotes: West Virginia opened Monongalia County Ballpark last weekend, drawing a three-game total of 6,968 fans for the weekend, the most to ever attend a weekend series in Morgantown … with a big weekend both at the plate and on the mound, the Mountaineers moved into first place in team batting in the Big 12, hitting at a .288 clip, while the pitching staff now ranks No. 6 with a 3.63 ERA … WVU batted .325 as a team last week with 20 extra-base hits, led by junior center fielder KC Huth, who went 9-for-15 (.600) with four runs, two doubles, one home run and six RBIs … sophomore first baseman Jackson Cramer his .467 (7-for-15) with six runs, three doubles, two home runs and five RBIs … junior left-hander Ross Vance picked up his third-consecutive victory on Saturday, allowing just four hits in eight shutout innings with three strikeouts ... sophomore right-hander Chad Donato struck out a career high 10 batters on Sunday, earning his fifth victory of the season.
