MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team continues its home spring slate against Maryland on Sunday, April 12, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Mountaineers return to competition following a 1-0 decision over Pitt on April 3. The squad is 1-1 this spring, having dropped a 4-0 decision at the Western New York Flash of the National Women’s Soccer League on March 14.
“The opportunity to play a Big Ten opponent with such a strong tradition of success will allow us to see where we need to continue to grow as a team,” said Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “I’m looking forward to seeing which student-athletes will emerge this spring season and develop their game to the next level.”
WVU was impressive against Pitt last week, outshooting the Panthers, 15-3, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman forward Heather Kaleiohi netted the game-winner in the 32nd minute. Junior Hannah Steadman and redshirt-freshman Michelle Newhouse combined for the shutout, with Steadman earning the starting nod, and Newhouse playing the entire second half.
The Terrapins have already faced La Salle, Georgetown and Pitt this spring. UMD does not post results from spring matches. The Terps are led by third-year coach Jonathan Morgan.
