MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three West Virginia University gymnasts, as well as the Mountaineer floor lineup, are ranked in this week’s GymInfo Poll.
Senior
Dayah Haley, the 2015 Big 12 Championship all-around runner-up, ranks No. 31 on floor with a 9.89 regional qualifying score (RQS). The Pasadena, Maryland, native has been nationally ranked for seven straight weeks.
Junior
Melissa Idell ranks No. 38 on floor with a 9.885 RQS. Additionally, sophomore
Alexa Goldberg ranks No. 46 on uneven bars with a 9.87 RQS.
The Mountaineer floor lineup sits at No. 23 this week and boasts a 49.125 RQS. WVU has not scored below 49.0 on the event since January 25.
Oklahoma, the 2015 Big 12 Conference champion, ranks No. 1 for the 11th straight week with a 197.895 RQS. Florida ranks No. 2 (197.79 RQS), and Utah, the Pac-12 Conference champion, ranks No. 3 (197.67 RQS). LSU and Alabama, the Southeastern Conference champion, rank No. 4 (197.65 RQS) and No. 5 (197.49 RQS), respectively.
Regionally, the Mountaineers are down to No. 6 (195.355 RQS). The squad ranks No. 3 on floor, No. 5 (48.72 RQS) on balance beam, No. 6 (49.015 RQS) on vault and No. 8 (48.68 RQS) on bars.
Haley sits behind three gymnasts from Florida and ranks No. 4 on floor. Idell follows at No. 6.
Goldberg ranks No. 10 on bars, and freshman
Zaakira Muhammad ranks No. 20 (9.8 RQS).
Junior
Jaida Lawrence leads a trio of gymnasts on vault and ranks No. 15 (9.865 RQS). Muhammad follows at No. 19 (9.835 RQS), and sophomore
Nicolette Swoboda ranks No. 23 (9.825 RQS).
Coming off a program-best second place finish at the 2015 Big 12 Conference Championship on March 21, WVU ranks No. 2 in the conference on vault and floor. The team ranks No. 3 overall and No. 3 on bars and beam.
Haley and Idell rank No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, on floor. Lawrence sits at No. 6 on vault, and Goldberg ranks No. 7 on bars. Muhammad follows the duo at No. 10 in both polls. Deal ranks No. 9 on beam.
By virtue of today’s rankings, the Mountaineers have qualified for the 2015 NCAA Regional Championships. WVU plays host to the 2015 NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. The NCAA will announce the regional pairings and seeds at 3 p.m. today with a streamed selection show at
