Members of the West Virginia University women’s basketball team completed a pair of community service projects this week. On Wednesday, WVU dropped off hundreds of stuffed animals to the Morgantown Police Department and on Friday visited patients at the WVU Children’s Hospital.

“I am so proud that our fans donated so many stuffed animals,” said senior forward Averee Fields. “It’s a little thing, but it can bring a great sense of hope to children that are going through hard times.”
This Friday, several members of the team took time out of their schedule to visit the WVU Children’s Hospital. There, the Mountaineers interacted with infants up to adolescents. The visit seems to always help alter the Mountaineers’ perspective.
“It’s a lot of fun because it gives us perspective on life,” said Fields. “These kids are fighting for their lives or going through a hard time. It makes a loss on the basketball not seem so bad. It’s fun to see the smile on their faces and we love to give them hope.”
West Virginia women’s basketball has participated in numerous projects throughout the season, including sorting and delivering toys for children during the holiday break.
