Track Posts Multiple Career-Bests on Day One

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Led by multiple career-best marks, the West Virginia University track and field team completed the first day of action at the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, earlier tonight.
All three Mountaineers in competition on Friday night recorded personal-best marks.
Tori Bertrand recorded a career-best mark of 3.82 meters in the pole vault to take first place overall in the event. Bertand had recorded previous-best marks of 3.75 meters on multiple occasions earlier in the season.
Maddie Gardner also registered a career-best mark in the event, vaulting 3.52 meters to place ninth overall. Sara Finfrock and Rebekah Lafata finished 15th and 17th, respectively, in the pole vault.
To cap off the evening, Allie Diehl posted a career-best mark of her own. Diehl placed eighth in the women’s 5,000 meters in 18:27.69. Diehl’s time was more than 30 seconds quicker than her fastest time in the event this season.
The Mountaineers will return to action tomorrow for day two of the Akron Invitational with the 3,000 meters at 10 a.m.
