MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University senior forward Averee Fields was named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District 2 Women’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Fields, a native of Murray, Kentucky, holds 3.95 GPA as a social work major and psychology minor. The Academic All-District honor is the first for Fields. She joins WVU’s Liz Repella as the only two women’s basketball student-athletes to have earned Academic All-District 2 accolades.

“This is a great honor for Averee,” said coach Mike Carey. “She is a tremendous hard worker in the classroom and on the court. She is truly deserving of this recognition.”
The senior is second on the team and fifth in the Big 12 with 14.0 points per game. Fields ranks seventh in the league with 7.0 rebounds per game. This season, Fields has recorded five double-doubles. She is just 120 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
Fields will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballots, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in the coming weeks.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fourth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
