MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed the second and final day of the 2015 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship earlier this evening at the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility in Ames, Iowa.
The Mountaineers placed four competitors on the podium Saturday, totaling 10 for the weekend.
“We brought 18 to compete at these championships and return home with 10 All-Big 12 awards,” said coach Sean Cleary. “This marks our highest number of award winners. For that point, we are very happy.
“We left some key members of this team at home with redshirting and look forward to bringing them back into the mix for the outdoor season. We have a quick turnaround with this group as spring is rapidly approaching. Our hope is to continue our momentum and emerge at a higher level outdoors.”
In the final of the one mile, Kelly Williams crossed the line in seventh place overall in 4:51.12. Williams qualified for Saturday’s finals after finishing eighth in the preliminary session on Friday.
Brianna Kerekes and Amy Cashin each earned spots on the podium in the 1,000-meter finals. Kerekes raced to a fifth-place finish in the conference in 2:49.99, while Cashin placed eighth in 2:50.99.
Freshman Shamoya McNeil earned a spot on the podium in the triple jump. McNeil jumped 12.06 meters to place eighth in the league.
Hannah Stone placed 13th overall in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.71 meters. Marsiell McBeam followed close behind with a 16th-place finish with a jump of 1.66 meters.
In the 3,000-meter run, Sydney Scott led the Mountaineers with an 11th-place finish. Scott’s time of 9:40.22 was a season-best mark in the event. Savanna Plombon crossed the line in 19th place (9:50.53) and Renee Maisonneuve placed 25th (9:56.61).
No. 4-ranked Texas won the Big 12 Indoor Championship for the second straight season.
