MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In its final meet prior to the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships, the West Virginia University track and field team hosts the Gold/Blue Open this Saturday, Feb. 21, at the WVU Shell Building.
"This meet provides a nice opportunity for our group to tune-up for next week's Big 12 meet," said coach Sean Cleary. "For some, this will be their last meet of the year, while others will use it to keep sharp for the remainder of the season. We are expecting to see some nice marks."
The meet, which will serve as the Mountaineers’ third and final home meet of the season, will get underway at 9 a.m.
West Virginia most recently competed at the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, last weekend.
The women’s one mile saw Kelly Williams finish fifth overall in a season-best 4:43.71.
Amy Cashin crossed the line in fifth-place overall in the 1,000-meter run on Friday night. Cashin’s time of 2:47.49 was a career-best, eclipsing her previous best of 2:54.80 set last indoor season. Cashin had another impressive performance on Saturday afternoon, placing 10th in the 800-meter run in a career-best 2:10.53.
West Virginia is in the middle of a stretch of eight straight weekends of competition leading up to the Big 12 Indoor Championships from Feb. 27-28.
Live results will be provided at WVUsports.com and admission is free to the public.
