Women's Soccer Spring Slate Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will compete in five matches throughout the spring season, including a season-opening showdown against the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Western New York Flash.
“The spring season is so vital to this program’s continued success,” said Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “These matches will provide us the opportunity to assess where the team stands now and where we need work to prepare for the 2015 season.
“Additionally, it’s so great for this team to again face the Flash and see where we stack up against a team with professional talent.”
The Mountaineers open the season on Saturday, March 14, against the Flash, at 10:30 a.m., in Elma, New York. The Flash are led by United States National Team member Abby Wambach.
WVU will play host to three matches in Morgantown in April, beginning with a tilt against Pitt on Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The squad will welcome Maryland on Sunday, April 12, at 1 p.m., and will close its home spring season against St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, April 19, at 3:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers will conclude their spring season at Ohio State on Saturday, April 25. The match’s start time will be announced at a later date.
The Mountaineers officially open their spring season on Saturday, March 7, with their annual 4-versus-4 tournament to raise funds for Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. The all-day “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” event at the Caperton Indoor Facility is a tournament for boys and girls in grades three through eight, with an open division for college-age and older groups.
