Track Finishes Day One at SPIRE Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, earlier this evening.
The Mountaineers had a total of six student-athletes compete on Friday in three different events.
Amy Cashin crossed the line in fifth place overall in the 1,000-meter run. Cashin’s time of 2:47.49 was a career-best, eclipsing her previous best of 2:54.80 set last indoor season.
Brianna Kerekes also participated in the 1,000 meters, finishing in ninth overall. Kerekes recorded a time of 2:50.71 in her first-ever appearance in the event.
In the pole vault, Tori Bertrand placed seventh overall with a mark of 3.67 meters. Maddie Gardner finished in a tie for eighth in the event, while tying a career-best vault of 3.52 meters.
In the 600-meter run, Christa D’Egidio placed 18th overall in 1:36.92. Also in the event, Rebecca Wendt finished 25th with a time of 1:39.03.
Day two of competition will continue tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
