College AD, a website dedicated to athletics administration news, compiled the list of 10 after speaking with numerous athletic directors, university administrators and conference personnel throughout the country.
”I am truly humbled by this recognition,” said Howes. “While appreciative, there are countless other colleagues of mine that are deserving of this acknowledgement. I am grateful to College AD for recognizing the role SWAs serve for their respective institutions. I think all of my peers would agree that it is a privilege to work with extraordinary administrators, coaches and student-athletes on a daily basis. It is the most rewarding aspect of our job.”
Howes, a native of Morgantown, has been WVU’s SWA since 1998. She is responsible for providing administrative oversight of WVU's women's basketball, varsity sports and serving as the primary sport administrator for 11 sports (women's basketball, men's golf, rifle, men's soccer, men's swimming, women's swimming, women's tennis, women's cross country, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track and wrestling).
She represents the university in the capacity of Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) on Big 12 Conference and NCAA Governance groups. She also serves as the Department's Title IX liaison.
Serving on several national committees over the years, Howes is currently the chair of the NACDA Learfield Directors Cup Committee. She has also served on the NCAA Administrative Cabinet, the NCAA Championships and Competition Cabinet, and the NACDA Executive Committee.
While at WVU, Howes has served as an NCAA staff liaison for women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics championships. She has also acted as an NCAA peer reviewer. At the conference level, Howes has served on several sport committees, including women's basketball, women's soccer, men's soccer, rowing, volleyball, and swimming & diving (chair). Administrative service included executive, budget & finance, and championships competition committees.
College AD was launched in 2013 with the goal of providing hard working college athletic department personnel with the latest industry news to help further their careers.
