The Washington, Pennsylvania, native was brilliant in the No. 2/3 Mountaineers’ final homestand of the season, tallying a career-high five points (2 G, 1 A) in a 6-0 win over Kansas on Oct. 16, and chipping in another helper in the team’s 4-0 victory against Iowa State on Oct. 18. Hill had the helper on both of Kailey Utley’s game-winners.
Hill’s two-goal showing Friday night was her first multi-score effort of her career. She and her five senior classmates were honored prior to the team’s home season finale Sunday afternoon.
This Week in Women’s Soccer: The No. 2/3 Mountaineers close their regular-season slate with back-to-back Friday road matches … WVU opens the road trip with a match at Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. ET.
Last Week in Women’s Soccer: The Mountaineers (14-1-1, 5-0-1) earned two Big 12 Conference wins in their final homestand of the season at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … WVU defeated Kansas, 6-0, on Oct. 16, and Iowa State, 4-0, on Oct. 18 … senior midfielder Amanda Hill paced WVU with six points (2 G, 2 A) on the weekend … senior forward Kailey Utley tallied the game winner in both matches … Hill (two goals), Ashley Lawrence, Kelsie Maloney and Maggie Bedillion also scored against the Jayhawks, while Heather Kaleiohi, Michaela Abam and Hannah Abraham chipped in scores against the Cyclones … WVU held its opponents to a combined 12 shots, with only three landing on-frame … ISU became the sixth opponent this season that WVU denied a corner kick … senior Hannah Steadman made three saves on the weekend and pushed her season shutout total to 10.
Notes: WVU’s shutout total stands at 13, one short of matching the program record, first set in 2010 … the Mountaineers own a 14-match unbeaten streak … WVU went 4-0 in conference games at DDSS this season, and the squad is now unbeaten in its last 30 straight conference matches in Morgantown … prior to Friday’s loss, KU had won six of its last seven matches … KU has never scored on WVU in five matches … WVU’s six goals against KU marked the first time the Mountaineers had tallied more than four goals against a Big 12 opponent … the Mountaineers have tallied 44 goals on the season, 11 short of matching the program single-season record of 55, set in 2006 … Utley now shows five game-winners on the season, the top mark in the Big 12 … she paces WVU with 22 points (8 G, 6 A) … Abam’s goal against ISU was her team-best 10th of the season … the Houston native ranks No. 4 on the all-time WVU sophomore goals list … Sunday marked the final home regular-season contest for six Mountaineer seniors: Utley, Hill, Maloney, Bedillion, Steadman and Leah Emaus.
This Week in Men’s Soccer: WVU continues a three match roadtrip at Princeton on Tuesday, Oct. 20 ... the Mountaineers and Tigers meet at 7 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the two teams ... the roadtrip concludes at Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. ... the Mountaineers are 3-4-1 vs. the Falcons and 2-1-1 in league competition ... a year ago, WVU earned a 2-1 win at home before a 3-2 loss in overtime in the MAC Tournament.
Last Week in Men’s Soccer: Senior Jamie Merriam scored two early goals to propel WVU to a 3-0 win over Penn State on Oct. 13 ... It was the Mountaineers’ fourth victory in their last five games, and the win was WVU’s fourth in its last six contests against PSU as coach Marlon LeBlanc won his 100th career match as a head coach ... sophomore Joey Piatczyc had one assist, his nation-leading 12th of the year and tied for the most in a single season in program history ... WVU concluded the week with a 2-0 loss at Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 16.
Notes: With WVU’s 3-0 win over Penn State on Oct. 13, head coach Marlon LeBlanc won his 100th career match ... LeBlanc’s milestone win came against his alma mater and where he earned his first victories ... a 2000 PSU graduate, LeBlanc was an assistant coach at Penn State from 2001-05 and earned four wins as interim head coach in 2002 ... LeBlanc owns a 96-65-27 record in 10 seasons at West Virginia, four shy of hitting 100 wins with the Old Gold and Blue ... sophomore Joey Piatczyc has notched 12 assists in 2015, tied for the most in a single season in program history ... he continues to lead the country in both total assists and assists per game ... Piatczyc has assisted on 12 of WVU’s 23 goals ... the shutout of Penn State was WVU’s fourth of the season and second in as many matches ... it came against 20 PSU shots and eight shots on goal ... Merriam’s two-goal game was his second of the season ... he has a team-high six goals on the year, including three in the last two games and four in the last three.
This Week in Volleyball: WVU is set for a pair of Big 12 matches ... the Mountaineers travel to Ames, Iowa, on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tilt with Iowa State, at Hilton Coliseum ... they return home on Saturday to host Oklahoma in the team’s annual Dig Pink match ... the game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start at the WVU Coliseum.
Last Week in Volleyball: The Mountaineers struggled in Big 12 play, going 0-2 on the week ... WVU dropped a 3-0 match to Texas Tech on Wednesday at the WVU Coliseum ... Mia Swanegan had 10 kills in the loss, while Hannah Shreve posted a team-high four blocks ... on Saturday, West Virginia took a 3-0 loss to Baylor in Morgantown despite 13 kills from Morgan Montgomery.
Coach Reed Sunahara following the match against Baylor: “Obviously it’s tough to lose, but I thought we did some things better than we did on Wednesday night (against Texas Tech). Hopefully, that can be a momentum builder. We’re going to keep plugging away and get better every day.”
This Week in Golf: West Virginia hosts the inaugural Mountaineer Intercollegiate at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia, on Monday and Tuesday ... the 14-team tournament has been cut to just two rounds due to weather concerns, with teams playing the first round on Monday in an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start, before playing the second round Tuesday in a 9 a.m. shotgun start ... Max Sear, Avery Schneider, Easton Renwick, Chris Williams and Alan Cooke will compete in the team competition for WVU, while Jon Ransone, Tristan Nicholls, Mason Short, Cole Hand and Tae Wan Lee will play as individuals.

This Week in Cross Country: The Mountaineers travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to compete at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 … this will be the Cowboys’ third time hosting the event on the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course … the time will be released the week of the race.
Last Week in Cross Country: The No. 20-ranked Mountaineers traveled to Madison, Wisconsin, and University Park, Pennsylvania, to compete at the Wisconsin adidas Invite on Friday, Oct.16, and the Penn State Open on Saturday, Oct. 17 … as a team, WVU placed 27th at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational at the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course (6k)… Brynn Harshbarger finished first for the Mountaineers with a time of 20:57.6, followed by Maggie Drazba in 21:08.5 and Millie Paladino in 21:13.5 … at the Penn State Open, the Mountaineers did not compete for a team score in the 6k race, but had two runners represent WVU … sophomore Corinne Kule finished sixth overall with a career-best 6k time of 22:41, followed by sophomore Allie Diehl in 11th with a personal-best 6k time of 23:07 ... also at PSU, West Virginia had four runners compete in an unattached race, including freshmen Peyton Panger, who finished third in 22:17, Olivia Hill in fourth (22:17) and Candace Jones in fifth (22:31).
Notes: A total of 36 teams competed at the Wisconsin Invitational, including 20 of the top-30 nationally ranked teams, and five of those 20 squads were ranked in the top 10… Kule shaved 40 seconds off her previous career-best time of 23:21 … Diehl ran a personal-best time (6k) at the PSU Open, taking off 24 seconds of her previous time (23:31) set at the 2014 Lehigh Invitational … on Saturday, alumna Kaitlyn Gillespie ran in the unattached race at the Penn State Open and finished first overall in 20:46.
This Week in Women’s Tennis: West Virginia will close its fall season at home with the Martha Thorn Invitational on Oct. 23-24 ... the two-day event is round-robin style and includes competition from James Madison and Duquesne ... matches will be played indoors at Ridgeview Racquet Club and will begin at 8 a.m. each day ... WVU opens singles play against James Madison on Friday, Oct. 23, followed be a round of doubles action against the Dukes ... the Mountaineers close day one of the tournament against Duquense in the afternoon session, followed by a round of doubles play ... play resumes on Saturday, Oct. 24, as WVU faces JMU in singles action, followed by another round of doubles play ... West Virginia will then wrap up the final day of the tournament as it battles Duquesne in singles, followed by a round of doubles play in the afternoon session.
Last Week in Women’s Tennis: West Virginia traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, on Oct. 15-17 to compete at the ITA Atlantic Regional ... six Mountaineer players competed for West Virginia in the singles and doubles draw ... in the main doubles draw, the doubles tandems of junior Kaja Mrgole and sophomore Habiba Shaker, and classmates Carolina Lewis and Lyn Yuen Choo advanced to the round of the 32 ... Mrgole and Lewis also advanced to the round of 32 in the qualifying singles bracket, but fell in the round of 16 to opponents from Georgetown and Maryland, respectively.
Notes: Sophomore Habiba Shaker went 1-1 in singles action at the ITA Regionals (Oct. 15-17) ... Shaker has a team-best 9-1 singles record this fall season ... sophomores Lyn Yuen Choo (7-4) and Carolina Lewis (7-3) each tallied seven wins thus far this fall season ... senior Hailey Barrett and sophomore Yvon Martinez, and Lewis and Choo are tied for a team-best 4-3 doubles record this fall season.
This Week in Rowing: The Mountaineers are idle until Saturday, Oct. 31, when the team travels to Fairfax Station, Virginia, for the Head of the Occoquan … the Head of the Occoquan is the first regatta of the season for the novice team.
Last Season in Rowing: The WVU rowing squad was idle last week.
Notes: The WVU rowing team had a strong showing in its fall season opener at the Head of the Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 3 … the Mountaineers placed first and third in the Women’s Open 4+ and second in the Women’s Open 8+ … to open the day, West Virginia finished second in the Women’s Open 8+, as it faced 12 boats to take a silver medal back home to Morgantown.
This Week in Swimming and Diving: The Mountaineers will host their fourth home meet of the season at the WVU Natatorium, with the Big 12 vs. Big East Weekend, on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. … WVU will compete against Butler, Seton Hall and Xavier on both days.
Last Week in Swimming and Diving: The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams hosted the first Big 12 vs. ACC Weekend, on Oct. 16-17 at the WVU Natatorium, competing against Georgia Tech on Friday and Virginia Tech on Saturday … WVU posted 12 first-place finishes in the 26 events on Friday… the WVU women’s team overcame the Yellow Jackets, winning 133-110 … the WVU women recorded seven first-place finishes against GT … the men’s team lost to GT, 108-135 … on Saturday, the WVU men’s squad was edged by the Hokies, 155-145, while the women lost, 173.5-118.5 … the men won nine of 16 events, and the women won four.
Notes: This weekend, the men’s squad set four WVU pool records. WVU’s Andrew Marsh set pool records in the 100 back (48.09) and in the first leg of the 400-yard free relay (44:59) … Nate Carr set a WVU pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.91 at Saturday’s meet … WVU’s Marsh, Carr, Ross Glegg, and Frank Csonka wrapped up the Virginia Tech meet, setting a WVU pool record in the 400-yard free relay (3:01.62) … Virginia Tech’s diving teams broke two WVU pool records, one on the women’s 1-meter board, and the other on the men’s 3-meter.
This Week in Rifle: WVU breaks from action for two weeks before another two-match road trip ... the Mountaineers will shoot at No. 8 Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 31, before traveling to Oxford, Mississippi, for a match at Mississippi ... both matches are slated to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
Last Week in Rifle: The Mountaineers were idle last week.
Notes: West Virginia opened its 2015-16 season with two matches on the road at Air Force’s Falcon Rifle Range in Colorado Springs, Colorado ... the Mountaineers defeated No. 9 Air Force (4705-4680), on Oct. 10, in both disciplines, outshooting the Falcons in smallbore, 2335-2322, and air rifle, 2370-2358 ... with the win, WVU improved to 18-0 against Air Force .... West Virginia then faced No. 6 Nebraska, on Oct. 11, earning its first Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) victory of the season by a score of 4714-4654 ... the Mountaineers defeated the Huskers in both guns, winning smallbore, 2338-2290, and air rifle, 2376-2364 ... junior Jean-Pierre Lucas shot a career-high 592 air rifle score against the Flacons ... senior Michael Bamsey matched his career-high smallbore score of 587 (198 kneeling, 199 prone, 192 standing) for the discipline win.
