WVU Runners Complete Penn State Open

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Members of the West Virginia University cross country team competed in the Penn State Open at the Blue-White Golf Course in University Park, Pennsylvania, today.
The Mountaineers did not compete for a team score in the 6k race.
“I am pleased with today’s performances,” said coach Sean Cleary. “We had a lot of lifetime bests on this course. It’s a great confidence booster for the future.”
Sophomore Corinne Kule finished first for the Mountaineers and sixth overall with a career-best time of 22:41, followed by sophomore Allie Diehl in 11th place with a personal-best time of 23:07.
Penn State won the race, totaling a team score of 37. Saint Francis came in second (54), Youngstown State in third (60) and Bucknell in fourth (69).
WVU had four runners compete in an unattached race, including alumna Kaitlyn Gillespie.
WVU’s freshman Peyton Panger finished third with a time of 22:17, followed by freshmen Olivia Hill in fourth (22:17), and Candace Jones in fifth (22:31).
Gillespie won the unattached race, finishing in 20:46.
Next up, the Mountaineers travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to compete at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31. This will be the Cowboys’ third time hosting the event on the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course.
