MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Zeke Moisey picked up a pair of bonus-point victories to lead the Mountaineers to two wins to open 2015 and was named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
Moisey began the week with a 21-4 tech. fall of Jacob Reyes of Grand Canyon in the third period (6:51), helping WVU defeat the ‘Lopes 42-0, on Saturday.
He used seven takedowns to earn his second tech. fall of the season. The following night, Moisey made quick work of Arizona State’s Ares Carpio, scoring an early takedown before pinning Carpio in 39 seconds for his third pin of the season and guiding the Mountaineers to a 22-12 win at Arizona State. Moisey moved to 20-8 on the year and 6-1 in duals. After posting a team-best 11 points on the week, he ranks second with 25 team points in duals this season.
Moisey also boasts eight bonus-point wins this season, including a trio of pins, three majors and a pair of tech. falls, and has a team-high 25 takedowns this season – seven of which came this week.

Last Week in Women’s Basketball: No. 21 West Virginia (10-3, 0-1 Big 12) went 1-1 last week ... the Mountaineers closed out non-conference action with a 101-46 victory over Saint Francis (Dec. 29) ... Bria Holmes and Teana Muldrow scored 23 points each in the win, while Linda Stepney dished out a career-high 12 assists ... West Virginia fell 71-60 to Oklahoma on Sunday, Jan. 4 ... Holmes paced the Mountaineers with 23 points, while Averee Fields added 16 in the loss ... Tyara Warren matched a caree high with 10 points and set a personal best with four steals.

Notes & Quotes: The men’s team placed first overall with a team score of 230.5, while the women’s squad finished second overall with a team mark of 83.5 ... in total, the Mountaineer men recorded a first-place result in eight events ... the men’s 100-meter butterfly saw Andrew Marsh take first in 56.20 ... Chase Williams and Austin Green followed close behind in second (57.77) and third (58.68), respectively ... Marsh also took first in the men’s 100-meter backstroke, hitting the pad in 56.22 ... Max Spencer took first in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke in 1:05.31, narrowly edging out teammates Nate Carr who finished second (1:05.62) and Chris Brill who took third (1:05.93) ... the women’s 200-meter freestyle relay team of Courtney Parenti, Amelie Currat, Mia Fiorenzi and Jaimee Gillmore placed third overall in 1:50.45 ... Last Week in Gymnastics: The Mountaineers went 6-11, 0-4 in the Big 12 Conference in 2014 … WVU just missed qualifying as a team for the NCAA Regional Championships, but four gymnasts individually qualified for the 2014 NCAA Athens Regional Championships: Hope Sloanhoffer (all-around), Beth Deal (balance beam), Nicolette Swoboda (all-around) and Alexa Goldberg (uneven bars) … Sloanhoffer won the regional beam title and tied for second in the all-around, qualifying her for the 2014 NCAA National Championships, the program’s first individual qualifier since 2009.
