MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team posted three first-place results in its final day of competition at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
"We had a few solid performances this weekend," said coach Sean Cleary. "We have a few leaders that are getting better and better every week but we need more to join them at the front."
For the second time in as many weekends, Marsielle McBeam took first place in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters. McBeam has placed first in the high jump in her only two appearances in the event this season.
The women’s 800 meters saw Kelly Williams finish first overall in 2:13.94 in her first action of the indoor season. Brianna Kerekes placed fourth in the 800 in 2:16.41, Shannen Daly finished seventh in 2:17.87 and Rebecca Wendt placed 11th in 2:19.75.
"Moving into February, I am looking for three to four more members of this group to step up and establish themselves as future greats in this program," Cleary said. "We have a quick turnaround for Akron. Recovering and some very good early week training is essential."
In her first action of the season, Amy Cashin finished first in the women’s 3,000 meters. Cashin crossed the line in a career-best 10:00.88, edging out the second-place finisher by nearly nine seconds. Allie Diehl placed seventh in the event in a career-best time of 10:41.76.
