MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s swimming and diving team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for a dual meet at No. 12 Ohio State on Friday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m.
“The men will be competing this weekend against a top-15 program in a great pool,” said coach Vic Riggs. “It will be a very similar situation for us at the Big 12 Championships in the coming weeks, so we are using this meet as a dry run to prepare.”
West Virginia has enjoyed a week off from competition, following a 192-108 win over Big 12 foe TCU on Friday, Jan. 18, at the WVU Natatorium.
Two pool records were broken by Mountaineers in the meet against the Horned Frogs. Andrew Marsh set a pool record time of 48.27 in the men’s 100-yard backstroke, eclipsing the previous-best mark of 48.44 set by Bryce Bohman in 2013. Nate Carr recorded a pool record 1:50.42 in the men’s 200 IM, breaking the previous record held by Tim Phillips (1:51.19) in 2008.
This marks the second straight year the Mountaineers and Buckeyes have met with OSU claiming a 151-99 dual-meet victory a year ago.
Friday will serve as the final meet prior to the Big 12 Championships from Feb. 26-March 1 in Austin, Texas. Results and information can be found following the meet at WVUsports.com.
