MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University track and field team recorded five top-five finishes today at the WVU Invitational inside the WVU Shell Building.
In total, nine season-best marks were set in today’s competition.
"Today's meet was a step in the right direction. We put a few more out on the track today after a very rough few weeks of sickness," said coach Sean Cleary. "Shamoya (McNeil) and Katlyn (Shelar) both put up marks that are quite good for this time of the year."
For the second straight week, Katlyn Shelar recorded a season-best mark in the pole vault. Shelar vaulted 3.96 meters, placing first overall in the event.
Shamoya McNeil competed in the triple jump for the first time as a Mountaineer. McNeil’s jump of 11.77 meters was good for first place in the event.
"As the winter continues, I feel confident that we will see many more personal bests from this group," Cleary said. "It is our hope to get a few more girls into the mix over the next few weeks."
The 4x800-meter relay team of Amy Cashin, Sydney Scott, Maggie Drazba and Savanna Plombon placed first overall in 9:29.29. The time was more than 30 seconds faster than the second-place squad.
In her first action of the season, Kelly Williams took first in the women’s 3,000 meters in 10:13.94.
Allie Diehl finished first in the 5,000 meters in 18:59.08, while Hannah Stone placed third in the high jump, tying a season best jump of 1.57 meters.
