MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As the West Virginia University gymnastics team prepares to open its 2015 home season at the WVU Coliseum next week, several exciting promotions are set for Mountaineer fans.
“We have five regular-season meets at the WVU Coliseum this season, and each promises to be an exciting event for our great fans,” said fourth-year coach Jason Butts. “I think we have some excellent promotions lined up for the year, and I’m excited for this team to compete again in front of the Mountaineer faithful.”
The Mountaineers (1-1) open their home and Big 12 Conference seasons with a tri-meet against Iowa State and George Washington on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. It is a “Poster Day,” and the 2015 gymnastics schedule poster will be available for all fans to pick up. The team will meet with fans and sign posters at “Chalk Talk” following the competition.
The first of two “Dollar Days” is scheduled for WVU’s dual-meet against No. 17 Denver on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., and all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas will be available for $1 each.
WVU will hold the third-annual “Wendy M. Roach Invitational” on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m., against New Hampshire, Maryland and Rutgers. The invitational, named after former WVU gymnast and current graduate assistant Nicole Roach’s mother, is a “Pink Meet” to promote breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink that afternoon, and the team will accept sundry item donations, such as scarves, nail polish, books, lotion and socks, for donation to Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. Additionally, the first 500 fans will receive a pink rally towel, courtesy of WVU Healthcare.
The Mountaineers’ second “Dollar Day” is scheduled for Sunday, March 8, when No. 15 Penn State visits the WVU Coliseum for a 2 p.m. dual-meet. It also is a “Gold Rush,” and all fans are encouraged to wear gold in support of the Mountaineers.
WVU closes out its regular season against Penn and Cornell on Saturday, March 14, at 4 p.m. The Mountaineers will honor their four seniors – Beth Deal, Dayah Haley, Brittney Harris and Lia Salzano – following the competition. Additionally, it also is WVU gymnastics alumni weekend.
The Mountaineers will return to the Coliseum following the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on March 21 and welcome the NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. Ticket information is now available at WVUGAME.com.
The Mountaineer Ticket Office continues to offer a Varsity Sports Flex Plan, a bargain for families who plan on attending a WVU varsity sporting event. Flex plan packages are available for just $20. A package provides 10 vouchers redeemable for single-game tickets to gymnastics, wrestling and baseball.
Flex plan packages can be purchased at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by stopping by the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum.
