MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman forward Michaela Abam of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named to the roster for the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp, to be held in Sanford, Florida, from Jan. 24-31.
Abam, a Houston native, has previously attended multiple Youth National Team camps and was a U.S. U17 Women’s National Team member. Additionally, she was invited to the U.S. U18 training camp in Mexico City last July.
“I’m very honored and excited to a part of this camp and to start off 2015 with the under-20 team,” said Abam, the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year. “I can’t wait to get down to Florida and share the feeling with my national teammates.”
The U.S. will face Bayern Munich from Germany, on January 27, and Florida on January 30. The squad’s roster features 28 players – 18 college players and 10 youth members.
Abam played in all 22 matches as a freshman and paced the Mountaineers in points (16), goals (8) and game-winning goals (4). Her totals ranked No. 6, No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, in the Big 12. An NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team honoree, she earned six starts and tallied two two-goal performances.
