MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the cusp of its Big 12 Conference season opener, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team maintains its hold on the No. 13 ranking in today’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Division I Women’s Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (7-2-1) have been ranked No. 13 since Sept. 2. The squad ranked as high as No. 10 in the preseason poll. Today’s ranking follows the team’s two dominate wins at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium over the weekend. The Mountaineers trumped La Salle, a 2013 NCAA Tournament team, 4-1 on Friday, and Villanova, 4-0, on Sunday.
Four Big 12 Conference teams are ranked in this week’s poll, including No. 6 Texas Tech (9-0). Kansas is No. 16 (9-1) and Oklahoma is No. 19 (5-3-2).
Defending National Champion UCLA (8-0-1) again ranks No. 1, while Virginia Tech (10-0) and Virginia (9-0) changed positions and rank No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Stanford (8-0-1) again ranks No. 4, and Florida State (8-1) continues to follow at No. 5.
BennettRank Rankings also released its weekly poll today, and the Mountaineers are up seven spots to No. 17.
The Mountaineers ride a seven-match unbeaten streak into their conference opener at TCU on Sept. 26. Kick from Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth is set for 8 p.m. ET. WVU will then travel to Austin for a Sunday showdown with Texas at 2 p.m. ET at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. Sunday’s match will be broadcast by Longhorn Network.
