“We played a great match last Saturday at High Point and it is important to keep the momentum as we head to take on a talented James Madison team,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Tom Martin (James Madison coach) has had a tremendous career and we expect that he will have his team prepared.”
The Mountaineers (4-3) and Dukes (3-3-1) have met seven times on the pitch with James Madison holding a 5-2 advantage. Most recently WVU fell 2-0 at James Madison in 2011.
The Dukes fell 2-1 at home last Friday to Robert Morris. Offensively, James Madison has only scored six goals in seven games, led by two from freshman forward Joe Vyner. Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Morton has a 1.25 goals-against average and has 24 saves in seven starts.
West Virginia snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win at High Point last Saturday. Junior forward Jamie Merriam scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the match, while freshman forward Tolu Ibikunle scored his first career goal.
Senior forward Andy Bevin assisted on Merriam’s goal, extending his team leading in points (12) and assists (6).
Sophomore goalkeeper Brent Arnold has a 4-2 record with a 1.09 goal-against average and 17 saves.
West Virginia will return home for a match against Niagara on Friday, Sept. 26. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
