MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Having won its last 10 games in a row, the West Virginia University volleyball team heads south this weekend to take on Duke and No. 13 North Carolina as part of the Big 12-ACC Challenge.
The Mountaineers (10-1) will face the Blue Devils (6-3) on Friday in a 6:30 p.m. match at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The two will meet for the ninth time this Friday, with Duke leading the series 7-1. They last met in September of 2006, when the Blue Devils took a 3-0 win in a neutral site match. West Virginia last defeated Duke on October 25, 1980.
On Saturday the Mountaineers head to Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for a 6 p.m. tilt with the No. 13-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (7-1). The squads will meet for the fifth time on Saturday, with the Tar Heels holding a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series. WVU and UNC, who first met in 1978, last faced off in 1992 with North Carolina taking a 3-0 win in a neutral site match up.
WVU is 10-1 on the season, having tied the NCAA-era program record of 10 straight wins set in 2013 at the beginning of the season. The overall program record is 15 consecutive matches won, set back in 1978. The Mountaineers have not lost since August 29 when they fell to No. 9 BYU 3-0 in the season opener.
After guiding WVU to a 4-0 weekend at the Mountaineer Invitational, outside hitter Jordan Anderson was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the Week of September 8-14. The Tournament MVP, Anderson led both WVU and the league in kills per set with an average of 4.86. She ranks sixth in the nation in that category, and also leads the Mountaineers in the Big 12 in points per set.
