Trickett Earns Quarterback of Week Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas - East Carolina's Shane Carden and West Virginia's Clint Trickett have been named Davey O'Brien Co-Quarterbacks of the Week for the third week of the college football season. It is the first such honor for the senior signal callers.
Carden, who appeared on the Davey O'Brien Award's preseason watch list, guided the Pirates to a 28-21 upset victory Saturday at then-No. 17 Virginia Tech, running for the game-winning touchdown with 16 seconds left. Through the air, he completed 23 of 47 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns.
During the contest, the Houston, Texas, native set school records for career completions (741) and touchdown passes (63), and also moved into sole possession of second place in passing yards (8,286). For the season, he is among the NCAA leaders in both passing yards with 1,031 (seventh) and passing touchdowns with seven (tied for 20th).
Trickett led the Mountaineers to a last-second 40-37 road victory over Maryland by connecting on 37 of 49 passes for 511 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. His 511 passing yards are the second-highest single-game total in school history and rank as the eighth most in Big 12 annals.
Three of Trickett's four passing scores went for more than 35 yards (36, 43 and 44). The product of Tallahassee, Fla., has amassed 1,224 yards passing with seven touchdowns and one interception through three games, while completing 75.4 percent of his throws. He currently ranks second in the NCAA in completion percentage, third in passing yards and tied for 20th in touchdown passes.
All 128 FBS quarterbacks are eligible for the weekly honor, which is determined by a subset of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee. The final weekly award will be issued on Oct. 27 prior to the paring down to 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award on Nov. 3.
