MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Riding a five-match unbeaten streak, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team stays steady at No. 13 in today’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Division I Women’s Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (5-2-1) have checked in at No. 13 in three straight polls. Today’s ranking follows the team’s 1-0-1 showing at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium over the weekend. The Mountaineers settled for a 1-1 draw against No. 16 Georgetown on Friday and earned a 4-1 victory over Duquesne on Sunday.
Four Big 12 Conference teams are ranked in today’s poll, with Texas Tech (7-0) sitting at No. 7 and Kansas (8-0) and Oklahoma (5-1-2) following the Mountaineers at No. 21 and No. 25, respectively.
The poll’s top five is unchanged from one week ago, with defending NCAA champion UCLA (6-0-1) at No. 1, Virginia (7-0) at No. 2, Virginia Tech (9-0) at No. 3 and Stanford (6-0-1) and Florida State (6-1) at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Mountaineers conclude their eight-match homestand this weekend with two games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU will face La Salle on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., and Villanova on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m.
Friday is WVU Faculty/Staff Night, and all faculty and staff will receive a coupon via email for free admission.
Sunday is a “Dollar Day,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, a postgame clinic is scheduled, with kids 13 and under who attend the match invited to a free clinic at Dreamswork Field following the competition. Also, the match is “Camper Reunion Day,” and all women’s soccer campers from this past summer are asked to wear their camp t-shirts to the game.
