Mountaineers Compete in Men's Rifle Prone

West Virginia University shooters and coach Jon Hammond competed in the men’s 50m rifle prone competition today at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Granada, Spain.
Senior Meelis Kiisk competed for Estonia and placed 26th overall with a total score of 623.7 (103.2, 104.3, 101.4, 104.5, 105.3, 105.0).
Hammond, shooting for Great Britain in his third World Championship, finished with a score of 620.3 (103.4, 103.0, 104.7, 102.4, 102.9, 103.9) for 50th overall.
Of note, WVU All-American and Italian shooter Nicco Campriani placed 34th with 622.7 (103.7, 104.7, 103.2, 103.4, 103.2, 104.5).
Competition will continue for the team tomorrow with the men’s and women’s 50m rifle 3 positions competitions.
The championship, held every four years and in between Olympic Games, is the first competition in which shooters have the opportunity to earn Olympic quota places, a starting position to send athletes to the next Olympics.
