Luck Announces 2014 Tennis Fall Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Oliver Luck announced today the schedule for the 2014 women’s tennis fall season.

“Our fall schedule allows coach Miha Lisac and the Mountaineers to prepare for the tough competition ahead this spring,” Luck said. “We are pleased to host two tournaments at home this fall, and I look forward to watching coach Lisac continue his mission of building our women’s tennis program, while competing in one of the toughest conferences in the country.”

In his second season at the helm, Lisac and the Mountaineers are slated to compete in five tournaments this fall.

“During the fall we always look to get better and prepare for the spring. The goal is to put players into competitive situations where they implement things they work on during practices,” Lisac said.

WVU opens the fall season at home with the Pink Invitational from Sept. 26-28. The Mountaineers will wear pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.

The following weekend WVU will continue its season at Akron from Oct. 3-5. October ends for the Mountaineers with the International Tennis Association (ITA) Regional from Oct. 17-20 in Blacksburg, Virginia.

To close out the fall season, WVU will host the Martha Thorn Invitational from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in honor of former coach Martha Thorn. Thorn was a vital part in building the foundation of the women’s tennis program at WVU, where she held the reigns for 26 years and posted an overall record of 315-227-1.

“We are very excited to kick off our second season together, and take another step forward as a program. The Big 12 Conference will be as tough as ever, and we are looking forward to competing against some of the top programs in the nation,” Lisac said.

Last season, the Mountaineers finished 3-18. WVU returns one player from each class to lead the four newcomers on the roster.
