MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seven from the West Virginia University gymnastics team were named Scholastic All-Americans for the 2013-14 academic year, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).
The seven honorees is an increase from five in 2013. In total, the Mountaineer program has earned 106 honors since 1987.
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and their academic accomplishments,” said Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “These gymnasts are students first, and our program values academic achievements equally with success on the competition floor. All seven of these student-athletes works very hard, and I am thankful their hard work is recognized.”
Graduates Hope Sloanhoffer (exercise physiology) and Bethany Yurko (human nutrition and foods) earned their fourth career honors. Junior Jaida Lawrence (speech and audiology) scored her second career honor, while four earned their first career honors: graduate Erica Smith (strategic communications), junior Lindsey Litten (pre-business), sophomore Mackenzie Myers (pre-sport and exercise psychology) and former Mountaineer Rachel Sine (exercise physiology).
