MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - With the Chillin4Charity Cold Water Challenge spreading rapidly throughout the country in support of the Kay Yow Foundation, the West Virginia women's basketball program and head coach Mike Carey joined the movement on Tuesday, by having ice cold water poured over his head in order to raise funds.
Earlier in the week, associate head coach Chester Nichols and assistant coach Sharrona Reaves underwent the challenge. Carey was called out by Texas Tech women’s basketball coach Candi Whitaker a few days earlier, and Matt Daniel from Marshall called out all the head coaches in the state of West Virginia. Carey underwent the challenge beside assistant coach Lester Rowe.
Prior to his participation with the ice water, Carey called out fellow Big 12 Conference coach Kim Mulkey, coach Harry Perretta at Villanova and coach Larry Tidwell at Texas Pan American.
The charity fundraiser asks each coach that participates to donate money to the Kay Yow Foundation, with an even larger donation if they do not accept the challenge.
