MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team placed 25 members on the Academic All-Big 12 Team, highlighted by 15 first team selections.
Mountaineers named to the first team include Alexandra Basil, Rachel Cokeley, Sarah Dodd, Elizabeth Duarte, Addie Dulaney, Kelly Kramer, Morgan Leach, Allyson Pytlak, Tamyra Roberts, Mollie Rosen, Bethany Sapen, Courtney Schrand, Summer Socha, Karen Verwey and Kendra Welker.
An additional 10 members of the squad were named the second team, including Alison Coates, Lisa Deklau, Kaitlyn Eason, Mallory Fisher, Susannah Hartlove, Jessica Hurlbert, Elizabeth Kantak, Christina Mehrtens, Caroline Mullins and Melinda Sharon.
Among those honored, Basil and Schrand joined five others with 4.0 grade point averages (GPA).
The first team was comprised of 93 members, while 21 selections made up the second team.
First team members consist of those who maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections held a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either, cumulative or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
WVU takes to the water on Saturday, May 3, at the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City.
