MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After opening its outdoor season last weekend, the West Virginia University track and field team travels to Raleigh, N.C., for the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 28.
The event, which is hosted by North Carolina State University, begins on Friday at 8:45 a.m., and finishes with the men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relays at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
“Heading south in the early spring signifies that outdoors is really here. The weather will be warmer, and the level of competition is perfect for our growth,” says coach Sean Cleary. “Over the next few weeks, we will increase our traveling roster as we prepare for steady meets for the next three months.”
West Virginia took a small group of competitors to the Cal U Early Bird Invitational last weekend to kick off the outdoor season.
Five Mountaineers posted first-place results, led by junior Karissa Knabenshue who placed first in the shot put and fourth in the discus throw.
Freshman Sydney Scott recorded a personal-best time of 2:22.46 in the 800 meters, while also taking first place.
Results and information regarding the meet can be found at WVUsports.com shortly following the conclusion of competition on Saturday.
