Their season may be over, but the members of the West Virginia University volleyball team are still hard at work and have focused their efforts on helping the Hoss Foundation prepare for the holiday season.
Located in Morgantown, the Hoss Foundation was founded by former WVU and NFL quarterback Jeff Hostetler and his wife, Vicky, in 1991 and is aimed at meeting the needs of children and/or families that face hardships due to traumatic injury, illness or financial crisis.
"We were looking for a way to truly give back to our community around the holiday season and luckily stumbled upon the Hoss Foundation,” said Mountaineer coach Jill Kramer. “What an amazing organization! Our team picked three families to shop, wrap and deliver their gifts to over the past couple of weeks. We made some great new friends in the shopping and wrapping process, as well as the gift giving process. This will definitely be something we will continue to stay involved with for years to come."
The Mountaineers joined other Hoss Foundation volunteers and spent an afternoon purchasing Christmas presents for an area family. The squad then wrapped the gifts and were able to deliver them directly to the recipients later in the week.
“Getting to go Christmas shopping for the kids was really fun,” said junior Brittany Sample. “But actually getting to interact with them when dropping off the presents was awesome.”
Freshman Morgan Montgomery echoed Sample’s sentiments.
“It was an incredible experience to see the joy we could bring to families around the holidays and give back to a community that has been very supportive of us,” said Montgomery. “I’m grateful that the Hoss Foundation gave us the opportunity.”
