Three Earn NSCAA Scholar All-East Region

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three student-athletes from the West Virginia University men’s soccer team have earned NSCAA Scholar All-East Region honors, the organization announced on Monday.
Senior Andy Bevin was named to the first team for the second time in his career with a 3.93 GPA in management information systems, junior Jamie Merriam was named to the second team with a 3.32 GPA in biometric systems and junior Zak Leedom was named honorable mention with a 3.79 GPA in finance.
“We have always put an emphasis on academics and the program has established itself as one of the top in the nation academically,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “We are proud to have Andy, Jamie and Zak represent us both on and off the field.”
Bevin, who was recently named a Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American and has been invited to the 2015 adidas Player Combine, finished 2014 with the team lead in goals (13), assists (8) and points (34).
Merriam earned All-MAC First Team honors after scoring nine goals and adding five assists for 23 points.
Leedom played in 19 games, registered three assists and took 15 shots.
WVU finished the season with an 11-7-1 record and a second-place finish in the MAC. LeBlanc was named the MAC Coach of the Year, while Bevin was named the MAC Player of the Year and freshman Joey Piatczyc was named the MAC Freshman of the Year.
