MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men’s soccer player Andy Bevin has been chosen to participate in the 2015 adidas Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine.
The annual combine will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from January 8-13. The MLS has invited 55 college seniors to showcase their talents in front of representatives from all 20 MLS clubs.
“My goal has always been to play at the professional level and this is another step in that process,” Bevin said. “I’m looking forward to being able to showcase my talents against some of the top players in the country.”
All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2015 SuperDraft presented by adidas that will take place on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Philadelphia.
A native of Napier, New Zealand, Bevin finished 2014 with the team lead in goals (13), assists (8) and points (34), earning 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year honors. He finished with the conference lead in points, while ranking No. 2 in goals and No. 2 in assists.
Heading into the College Cup this weekend, Bevin is ranked No. 2 nationally in points and No. 7 in goals this season. In the WVU men’s soccer career rankings, Bevin finished No. 3 in assists (19), No. 5 in points (81) and No. 7 in goals (31).
A committee of NCAA Division I coaches from every conference, as well as MLS coaches, selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players and additional college seniors will be announced in the coming weeks.
Bevin becomes the seventh player under coach Marlon LeBlanc to be selected to participate. Nick Noble (2006), Jarrod Smith (2006), Dan Stratford (2007), Andy Wright (2007), Uwem Etuk (2012) and Eric Schoenle (2012) have all previously participated.
