ROOT SPORTS To Televise WVU-Marshall

ROOT SPORTS™ announced the network, in partnership with IMG College, will produce and broadcast the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic between Marshall and West Virginia Universities Live on Sunday, December 14th as part of the network’s expansive ‘Wild & Wonderful Sports’ coverage. The Thundering Herd and Mountaineers will tip-off at 4:30PM from the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
Entering its 36th consecutive year, the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic is an annual college basketball tradition between in-state rivals, the Marshall Thundering Herd and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Last year, the Mountaineers defeated the Thundering Herd 74-64 and overall lead the series 31-11 since the rivalry first began in 1929.
“This instate contest is one of the most anticipated games every season, and this year we take great pride in being a part of the experience and bringing the rivalry to over 3.3 million homes throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Maryland,” said Shawn McClintock, Senior VP and General Manager of ROOT SPORTS. “It’s a great celebration of the state of West Virginia, the states’ prestigious collegiate athletics and their remarkable fans who bring an unparalleled passion and enthusiasm to the game.”
ROOT SPORTS’ Rob King will call play-by-play for the game, former WVU basketball player Warren Baker and Marshall alumnus Frank Giardina will provide commentary as color analysts and Robby Incmikoski will bring exclusive coverage from on the court as ROOT SPORTS sideline reporter.
