MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Andy Bevin and sophomore Jack Elliott of the West Virginia University men’s soccer team have been named Capital One Academic All-Americans as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In addition to being selected to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team, Bevin was tabbed as the Capital One Academic All-America of the Year for Division I men’s soccer. He is the first West Virginia men’s soccer player to earn that accolade and just the fourth in University history. Bevin also earned first team honors in 2013, becoming just the fifth student-athlete in school history to earn first team honors twice.
The forward boasts a 3.93 cumulative GPA as a management information systems major. Bevin, who also is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, has been named to the Dean’s list each of the last five semesters.
“Andy is the epitome of a true student-athlete and he leaves WVU as arguably the most decorated men’s soccer player in school history,” Director of Athletics Oliver Luck said, a Capital One Academic All-America Hall of Famer. “Most importantly he matched the effort he played with on the field, in the classroom and in the community. As a former two-time first team honoree, I am pleased to welcome Andy to this prestigious group. I’m looking forward to watching him achieve his professional goals athletically and in the work place.”

A native of Napier, New Zealand, Bevin finished 2014 with the team lead in goals (13), assists (8) and points (34), earning 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year honors. He finished with the conference lead in points, while ranking No. 2 in goals and No. 2 in assists.
In the WVU men’s soccer career rankings, Bevin finished No. 3 in career assists (19), No. 5 in points (81) and No. 7 in career goals (31).
“The athletic stuff is one thing, but whenever you look at what the charges are for being a student-athlete and how we’re supposed to be developing them and what we’re supposed to be developing them for, you cant help but not say he is not only one of the greatest ambassadors for the student-athletes at WVU, but in the entire NCAA,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “This is a kid who has done it all, proved it all and leads the type of lifestyle that the NCAA should be promoting to the hills as to what they expect student-athletes to be.”
Other academic honors for Bevin include: 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-District 2, 2013 Capital One Academic All-America First Team, 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District 2, 2013 NSCAA Scholar All-America Second Team, 2013 NSCAA Scholar All-East Region First Team, 2013 Academic All-MAC First Team and 2012 Academic All-MAC First Team.
Elliott was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team after starting all 19 games in 2014. He finished the season with one goal, two assists and four points. He was part of a backline that posted six shutouts and allowed an average of only 4.5 shots on goal per game.
A native of London, England, Elliott has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in geography. He has been on the President’s List each of his first two semesters.
“Jack has been a tremendous asset to our team and our most consistent defender,” LeBlanc said. “He played the most minutes of any player last season and I look forward to seeing him further develop on and off the field in the next two years.”
WVU finished the season with an 11-7-1 record and a second-place finish in the MAC. LeBlanc was named the MAC Coach of the Year, while Bevin was named the MAC Player of the Year and freshman Joey Piatczyc was named the MAC Freshman of the Year.
