MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the 13th straight season, the No. 7-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for its academic diligence, as the Mountaineers earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
WVU was recognized for its team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2013-14 academic year. The Mountaineers posted a team GPA of 3.24 last year.
“Our academic staff, led by Stephanie White and assistant coach Marisa Kanela, work tirelessly to make sure our team is giving a consistent effort in the classroom,” said Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Thirteen straight honors is a great achievement, and everyone should be proud.”
The Mountaineers, the Big 12 Conference regular-season and tournament champions, concluded their 2014 campaign with a 0-0 draw against Georgetown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 15. GU advanced to the second round on a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks. The draw pushed the team’s unbeaten streak to a program-record 19 matches.
