Men’s Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team earned an NSCAA Team Academic Award for its team grade point average (GPA) for the 2013-14 academic year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced today.
The Mountaineers, who earned the award for the seventh-straight season, are one of 280 men’s soccer teams in all divisions to have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA. With a 3.33 GPA, West Virginia had the second-highest mark among Mid-American Conference members.
“As a team we have made it a point to not only be successful on the field, but in the classroom as well,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Earning this award for the seventh-straight season shows that we have once again achieved our academic goals. I want to thank our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, specifically our academic counselor, Erin Brady.”
WVU finished the season with an 11-7-1 record and a second-place finish in the MAC. LeBlanc was named the MAC Coach of the Year, while senior Andy Bevin was named the MAC Player of the Year and freshman Joey Piatczyc was named the MAC Freshman of the Year.
