Anderson, Shreve Earn Big 12 Accolades

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a 3-0 home sweep of Baylor, a pair of West Virginia University volleyball players have earned Big 12 accolades as Jordan Anderson was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Hannah Shreve earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday.

“We had a great team performance against Baylor last week highlighted, by Jordan having a great match offensively and Hannah having a great blocking match,” said WVU coach Jill Kramer. “We have been seeing constant improvement out of our team and it’s nice to see their hard work pay off. It’s also nice for them to be rewarded for their effort.”

It marks the second honor of the season for Anderson, who was also named the player of the week on September 15. The Flower Mound, Texas, native finished inside the top-10 of the Big 12 in kills, service aces, blocks and points this week. Anderson posted a league-best 5.67 kills per set, totaling a team-high 17 against the Bears. The sophomore outside hitter hit for a .308 clip and averaged a league-best 6.67 points per set. Anderson also put up four blocks, averaging 1.33 per set against Baylor, and had the Mountaineers’ lone ace of the day.

Rebounding from an injury earlier in the season, Shreve has emerged as a blocking leader for the Mountaineers. The sophomore middle blocker registered a career-high ten total blocks with one solo and nine block assists against the Bears. Shreve, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, averaged a league-best 3.33 blocks in helping WVU post a season-best 18.0 team blocks in the match.

The Mountaineers will travel to Lawrence, Kansas, on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET match with the Kansas Jayhawks at the Horejski Family Events Center.
