LUBBOCK, Texas – West Virginia faces Texas Tech at sold-out Jones AT&T Stadium today in an important Big 12 clash for both teams.
For West Virginia, it’s an opportunity to build off of last Saturday’s 33-14 victory over Kansas and for Texas Tech, it’s a chance to snap the Red Raiders’ seven-game Big 12 losing streak dating back to last year.
So far this year, Texas Tech is 0-2 in league play following losses to Oklahoma State and Kansas State.
The last time these two teams hooked up in Lubbock, Tech ran away with a 49-14 victory.
Today’s game will kick off at noon and will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1. The Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG’s pregame coverage begins with the Mountaineer Tailgate Show at 8:30 a.m. Here is today’s Countdown to Kickoff:
10 – The Mountaineers’ last TEN consecutive scoring drives have been completed in 2:31 or less.
9 – Texas Tech ranks NINTH out of 10 teams in the Big 12 this week in rushing offense averaging 133.8 yards per game. West Virginia, meanwhile, is fifth averaging 170.8 yards per game.
8 – Quarterback Clint Trickett has now completed EIGHT passes of 37 yards or longer, including four for touchdowns.
7 – Wide receiver Kevin White is seeking his SEVENTH career 100-yard receiving game today against Texas Tech. White has produced five straight 100-yard games to start the season, including a career-high 215 yards on 13 catches against Maryland last month.
6 –SIX times during Dana Holgorsen’s coaching tenure at West Virginia the Mountaineers have run at least 90 plays in a game, including a high of 108 plays earlier this year at Maryland.
5 – West Virginia is seeking its FIFTH straight game with at least 500 yards of total offense. The last time the Mountaineers had four straight 500-yard games was in 1993 when they ran the table and faced Florida in the 1994 Sugar Bowl.
4 – Today’s game is just the FOURTH meeting between these two schools, and just the third since West Virginia joined the Big 12 in 2012.
3 – THREE of Josh Lambert’s 11 field goals so far this year have been from 47 yards or longer, including a season-high 54 yarder three weeks ago against Oklahoma.
2 – TWICE West Virginia has produced 33 first downs in games this year against Maryland Towson – the fourth-best single game total in school history.
1 – Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb became the FIRST Red Raider quarterback to pass for more than 400 yards during his first two starts, one of those coming against West Virginia last year in Morgantown.
Enjoy today’s game and be sure to stop back afterward for complete postgame coverage.
