MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Senior Andy Bevin of the men’s soccer team has been named the VSR Student-Athlete of the Week following his five-point performance in two wins last week.
Bevin scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 2-1 comeback victory at No. 12 Penn State on Wednesday evening. Bevin then assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win against Bowling Green on Saturday.
Bevin leads the team with nine goals, seven assists and 25 points. He has cracked the Top 10 in nearly every career offensive category, ranking No. 8 in goals (27), No. 3 in assists (18) and No. 7 in points (72). Bevin also ranks highly in the NCAA Active Career Leaders as he is No. 7 in points, No. 9 in goals and No. 16 in assists.
This Week in Women’s Soccer: The No. 8-ranked Mountaineers close out their regular season with a match against Baylor on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … it’s “Senior Night,” and Ali Connelly, Jess Crowder, Katie Osterman and Kate Schwindel will be honored before first kick … admission is free, courtesy of United Bank … youth fans are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and attend Trunk or Treat in the Coliseum band parking lot starting at 5:30 p.m.
Last Week in Women’s Soccer: WVU (13-2-2, 6-0-1) clinched its third straight Big 12 Conference regular-season title with a pair of wins at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … the Mountaineers earned a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Oklahoma State on Oct. 24 and a 3-1 win over Oklahoma on Oct. 26 … junior forward Kailey Utley scored three goals on the weekend, including both scores against the Sooners … her golden goal game in the 103rd minute … after Utley put WVU on the board vs. OU in the 19th minute, redshirt-freshman Amandine Pierre-Louis added a pair of second-half insurance goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 75th minute … junior Hannah Steadman made a combined four saves on the weekend.

Last Week in Volleyball: The Mountaineers finished the week 1-1 ... the Mountaineers traveled to Waco, Texas, on Wednesday to take a 3-1 win at Baylor ... Jordan Anderson’s double-double of 19 kills and 10 digs led the way as WVU hit .263 as a team ... Nikki Attea chipped in 15 kills and Gianna Gotterba made a pair of heads up plays that resulted in kills to go along with her 18 digs ... on Saturday, the Mountaineers dropped a five-set heartbreaker to No. 22 Kansas State in Morgantown by a score of 3-2, marking the second time this season they have taken a nationally ranked opponent to five sets ... Attea posted a career-best 25 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double.

This Week in Cross Country: The No. 9-ranked Mountaineers travel to Lawrence, Kansas, for the 2014 Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. ET.

Last Week in Swimming and Diving: The Mountaineers fell to Penn State at the WVU Natatorium on Thursday, Oct. 23, and split a dual meet against Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 25 … the men earned a 174-85 win, while the women fell to the Wildcats 146-116.
Notes & Quotes: Emma Skelley had a strong week for the Mountaineers, winning the 1,000 free (10:05.49) and 500 free (4:58.49) against Penn State … Skelley followed that up by winning the 1,000 free (10:08.94) against Villanova while finishing second in the 500 free (4:48.85) … diver Haily VandePoel swept both the 1- and 3-meter boards against Penn State, marking the second time this season VandePoel claimed first in both diving events … freshman Pierce Bradshaw had a strong showing at Villanova, taking first in the 1,000 (9:46.32) and 500 free (4:44.16).
Coach Vic Riggs: “The men swam well, and overall we had some solid swims today (against Villanova). Andrew (Marsh) and Nate (Carr) continue to swim at a high level, and Max (Spencer) is improving every meet. It was a disappointing loss for the women. We definitely had our chances to take control in a few events and we missed those chances.”
This Week in Rowing: The Mountaineers return to the water this week with a visit to Fairfax Station, Virginia, on Saturday, Nov. 1, and it is the first regatta of the season for the novice squad.
