MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University announced home game times for the upcoming 2014-15 women’s basketball season on Thursday. ROOT Sports will air four WVU games extending the total to 11 televised broadcasts featuring the Mountaineers this season.
A first glimpse of the defending Big 12 regular season co-champion Mountaineers takes place on Friday, Oct. 31 during the annual Haunted Hoops game versus Wheeling Jesuit. Tipoff for the exhibition contest is set for 7 p.m. Admission to the contest is free and open to the public.
WVU officially opens the year against Eastern Kentucky in the Preseason WNIT on Saturday, Nov. 15 in a 7 p.m. contest. The Mountaineers may potentially host a second round game on Monday, Nov. 17 against Seton Hall or Rider. All locations and tipoff times for the next three rounds of the Preseason WNIT (second, semifinal and championship) will be announced following the conclusion of the each round.
Game time for West Virginia’s matchup against Fairfield on Saturday, Nov. 29 will be determined after the WVU-Iowa State football kickoff is set.
A total of four Mountaineer games are slated to appear on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh in 2014-15.
"We are excited to be able to bring Mountaineer fans enhanced television coverage of the women's basketball program this season through our partnership with IMG College and ROOT Sports,” said Matt Wells, WVU’s Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. “We appreciate the added exposure our program will receive through the opportunity to have four home games televised on a regional basis in addition to the games previously selected through the Big 12 Conference's TV partners.”
ROOT Sports will showcase the Mountaineers’ 46th all-time meeting with Duquesne on Dec. 10 in a 7 p.m. showdown.
In January, two consecutive home games are slated to air on the regional network when WVU hosts Baylor (Jan. 10) and Texas Tech (Jan. 14). The contest against the defending Big 12 Tournament Champion Lady Bears is set for noon, while the Red Raiders and Mountaineers tip at 7 p.m. four days later.
West Virginia’s 7 p.m. matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks on Feb. 10 will be the final televised game on ROOT Sports. These four televised contests featuring the Mountaineers are in addition to the seven other Big 12 games that were announced earlier this year. All of those contests will air on Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports Net or ESPN2.
