Rifle Steady at No. 1

The West Virginia University rifle team ranks No. 1 in the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll for the third straight week.
Today’s rankings are based on the last aggregate score shot by each team.
Kentucky moves up one spot this week to the No. 2 spot after defeating No. 13 Akron, 4686-4615, while Alaska-Fairbanks drops one to No. 3, defeating No. 14 University of Tennessee at Martin, 4682-4462. Jacksonville State remains No. 4, and Air Force climbs one spot to No. 5.
WVU’s most recent opponent, TCU, improves two spots to No. 6. Murray State drops two spots, tying for No. 7 with Nebraska. No. 9 Memphis and No. 10 Ohio State round out the Top 10 in this week’s poll.
Most recently, WVU opened its season with a 4712-4664 win over TCU. The aggregate score was higher than any shot last season, the sixth highest in team history and the highest opening match score in team history.
The Mountaineers (1-0) travel to Akron Oct. 25 and Ohio State on Oct. 26. The match between WVU and the Zips begins Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) competition for the five-time defending conference champions and defending regular-season champions.
